The best of perhaps? Although White Heat..... is a quality album they rarely play anything off it live so that may put you off?

All they're albums are great in my opinion so this is a difficult question. The self titled album has Ball And Chain, Story Of My Life, Sick Boys and the classic cover of Ring Of Fire. Which are probably they're most well known songs. But again you'd get all them with the Greatest Hits....

Also the new album is finally coming out in January, can't wait for it.

Definitely White Light White Heat White Trash. It's an essential blast of brutal US punk. Somewhere Between Heaven And Hell and Sex, Love And Rock 'N' Roll are also both strong records, with only the odd filler track here and there. However, for my money, the production on the self titled album sounds a little dated, although there's plenty of SD classics on it. If you're after a career spanning collection then head for the Live At The Roxy CD from 1998.

this is weird. i posted about Social Distrortion on another thread a couple of weeks ago after hearing Gaslight Anthem doing ball and chain. I am seriously in love with that song and so is my nine month old boy who goes to sleep when i sing it in his ear. ( mind you as those of you who have stood near me at gigs will agree thats probably a defense mechanism!) before that they were a band i was aware of without having really listened to them.
probably not helped by confusing mike ness with mike muir ( suicidal tendencies)
i too was wondering which cd to start with. I have had a listen to quite a few tracks on line. They have a new one due out early next year too. (Hard times and nursery rhymes?)
why do i have to ignore you to get your attention?

The Mike Ness solo album Cheating At Solitaire is also worth checking out, if your tastes run to shit-kicking country.
