Free (and legal!) downloads

Postby Stuart Brackpool » 2nd Nov 10, 18:56

Here are links to some albums available for download, free of charge, that I thought some amongst us would like. I imagine many of you may know about them but if you don't, here they are.

Here's a greatest hits by Annihilator:
http://www.earache.com/totalannihilation

Here's a tribute album for Bad Religion:
http://www.myspace.com/badreligion

Here's a Pixies live album:
http://www.lalapixiesloveyou.com

All of them require an email address. Good stuff and free! Lovely.

Anybody have any other good links?

Death to False Hope Records is a digital-only record label, offering free full-album downloads from all the bands on its roster, with the option to donate if you wish. The bands mostly fall into the pop-punk/hardcore/indie-rock sorta spectrum, so I figure a good amount of yous who use this forum would be interested.

I'd particularly recommend "Maps" by Mixtapes, one of the best (mini-)albums I've heard this year, by far.

Bit different, and not really my kind of thing normally but I have to admit this is really well done with some quite inspired moments - http://www.girltalkallday.com/ - and even with Wildhearts links*! Huey Funlovincriminal Morgan has been playing Jump On Stage quite a bit on his 6music show, from which the mash/mix/whatever of Iggy Pop, Beastie Boys and Lady GaGa :eeek: is what encouraged me to have a listen. And it's free of course.

*(Samples Fugazi - Waiting Room and Toadies - Possum Kingdom, sure there are probably some more tenuous links in there too given the number of bands and tracks sampled).

More in the way of pop-punk/melodic hardcore goodness - Download Hold Tight!'s "Can't Take This Away" for free (or name your price).

Fast, tuneful, catchy, energetic, well-produced; i'm genuinely having a hard time believing nobody's signed these guys yet! I actually got pointed to the site by one of the band members posting a "hey guys, check out my band" post on punknews.org. Considering the amount of shitty amateur bands I've encountered through such posts before, I'm not even sure why I clicked it, but I'm glad I did, "Can't Take This Away" is a genuinely awesome album!

Recommended if you like Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, (old) Rise Against, Dear Landlord, (old) Saves the Day, Bouncing Souls etc. etc.

Roadrunner sampler. Big names, fairly obvious choices, but still quality.
