Albums Of The Year

General music banter. Gigs, reviews, new bands...

Silent Cry is really anthemic and totally worthwhile as well. There's no such thing as a bad Feeder album.

In that case I might go with 'Silent Cry' or the new one rather than 'Comfort In Sound'. Thanks for the advice.

Comfort in Sound is an absolute classic, it's just far more downbeat than those two. All 3 albums are worth getting, i guess it's just down to personal tastes

I can't listen to Silent Cry. It's compressed all to fuck and hurts my ears.

Aside from the Crooked Vultures and Manics albums I can't think of anything that's stood out in the last 12 months. Bombay Bicycle Club album was nice, but not amazing, but I've not found anything that really rocked my boat.

Some great stuff in these lists - I love the variety - metal to rock to punk to country to indie!
I've been having a listen on spotify to some of the stuff I hadn't heard of and there's plenty I will have to check out in more depth. Can't get into anything with screamed vocals though, I just don't get that stuff.

My top 10 of the year would have to be (excluding compilations/best-ofs/re-issues):

Manics – Postcards from a Young Man
The Hold Steady – Heaven is Whenever
Arcade Fire – The Suburbs
Biffy Clyro - Only Revolutions
The National – High Violet
Electric Six – Zodiac
Jackdaw4 - The Eternal Struggle For Justice
Black Spiders - Sons of the North
The Dead Weather - Sea Of Cowards
Jim Jones Revue – S/T

Technically a couple of those aren't actually from this year but I bought them this year so they're going in. The National album is so addictive it's like crack in CD form. The Manics are back on form in my book. There's been some great albums this year, looks like next year will be good too so I am looking forward to it.
Hope santa gets me some more shiny discs! :bounce:

Foxy Shazam and Volbeat for me, and although it's not cool to like them the new MCR album is getting plenty of spins.

of course, some others have said:

Alkaline Trio - This Addiction - I'd go for this as long as it's the deluxe edition with bonus tracks, a bit like I can't listen to Chutzpah without Chutzpah Jnr

Far - At Night We Live. Yep, I like the majority of things Jonah Matranga puts out tbh, this is very good though sometimes the production is too loud.

And how could I possibly have forgotten Jackdaw4

Oh and Dead Identities - Bad Cats & Heart Attacks is ace

I can second these picks :

The Organ Beats - "Sleep When We Are Dead"
Jason & The Scorchers - "Halcyon Times"

And add the following ( these may not have all been released this year, but that when I discovered them, which it more important IMO ) :

The Bishops : self-titled debut CD & "For Now"

Earl Greyhound : "Soft Targets"

Hawks : self-titled debut album ( early-80's power pop from Iowa )

The music of Kayo Dot ( any album )

Sorcery : "Stunt Rock" soundtrack ( awful, & I LOVE it )

Taste : "Tickle Your Fancy" ( 70's Australian hard rock )

Kind of a slow year for me new music-wise, but there's always something cool & interesting out there to listen to.

Six of those would be in my ten. To which add...

French Horn Rebellion - The Infinite Music Of...
Weezer - Hurley
Kele - The Boxer

...but to be fair I think I'm forgetting loads of them.

Just spotted this one! I've been friends with a member of this band for 25 years (although he's only been in it for about 5). I went to his wedding earlier this year and the band played at the evening reception, which I was unable to attend.

They're a great band.
Proper folky/world protest music and unlike some bands going about they actually do more than talk about it.
They even have bikes at the side of the stage so folk can cycle to power ther gigs

Some great songs though

Their humorous side

Their serious side and a great vocal performance

Foxy Shazam - Fozy Shazam
Murderdolls - Women & Children Last
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream

Doesn't look like a lot, but Foxy makes up for the lack of albums for me. I think I'll have to buy some of the ones people have mentioned in here though.

After spending most of 2010 padding out various back catalogues I think the only album I bought this year that was actually from this year was Black Spiders - Sons of the North (I'm not even sure that counts as its official release is Feb 2011).

It is well worth picking it up in Feb if you didn't manage to grab it off their website.

Having checked out a bit of Foxy Shazam online they are top of the list to purchase in the New Year.
