Download warm up gigs

Postby Assmask » 23rd Apr 12, 11:08

I assume many of us have seen the 555th post on that FB chat.

Ginger Nyc: We will announce Download warm up shows today! Yay. See you all in either Belfast, Manchester, York or Glasgow. x

I hope he's typing those in date order as I'll be in Notts from the Tuesday.

Surely that's too few warmup shows and as it happens the west country is always nice in June...

That's pretty good for a warm up tour, especially when Ginger ain't touring this year.

See (some of) you at Belfast!

Unlike previous gigs where I've booked a ticket and then found travel/accommodation extortionate, I checked the prices before buying tickets.

The prices were still extortionate, I couldn't really justify spending the money...
...but I booked the fuckers anyway and am going to the Manchester gig!

I think 4 warm ups for one festival is pretty good going really, especially that Belfast date!
With the double bank holidays on the 4th & 5th this stacks up very nicely. Think we should get some meet ups sorted - get the home fires burning up north to welcome those from further afield.

Mattie - have you checked the coach/mega bus prices?

Trains to York from Newcastle are pretty reasonable. Just had a quick look as that is the way i'll haveto get there if i decide to go.

Last 2 trains leave York at

11:18 and 12:41. Must be dinky litte trains though as it has journey time as hour and a half.

Return fare is about £18 inc fees. Far cheaper than a hotel.

I've used megabus before but it only offers Derby-London, no other destinations from here.
Train fare was only £34 return, which I guess isn't really extortionate - especially compared to £60+ it would have cost for Newcastle (Therapy gig).

Just checked National Express is £10 cheaper than the train, didn't realise coaches were so regular tbh - think I'll be checking that out for some future gigs before booking trains.

I'm happy to pay a little extra for Ginger gigs really, I just baulk at paying high prices to see bands I don't even know if I like all that much... kinda why I'd never want to go to a major festival - too many bands I just don't like!

Already bought Manchester tickets. Decided against York as I didn't want to take an extra holiday but just realised I'm being forced to take it as a holiday by my work anyway.

Should I do both? Can I afford it?
Hmmm... a decision needs to be made. Brains/ wallet vs irresponsibilty/good times.

That aligns perfectly with me being in Stockholm.

Oh well, best make sure I do the birthday this year then.
